OneTwo TownHouses
Project Information
A passion for modern art infuses much of FdM:Arch’s work. Few projects made such a literal reference to this passion as the OneTwo Townhouses, two independent townhouses connected by a common base.
An initial art reference, Andy Warhol’s dance diagram paintings, served as inspiration for the way in which cars would be moved around the home’s lot. A second work, Francis Picabia’s 1938 “Printemps” painting – featuring an abstracted couple dancing across a skyline – inspired us to design two structures that appear to be dancing around one another, as if competing to achieve a better view of the Houston skyline.
The home’s garage level, with separate entrances for each house, is embedded within the site topography and establishes a common plane from which the houses rise. The elevated plaza level serves as a common front porch from which to engage the neighborhood. The houses are two- and three-bedrooms respectively, with the living, dining and kitchen areas on the second floor and the master suite on the top floor. Off of these suites, two roof terraces extend the residences to the exterior and are the private counterpart to the shared entry plaza.
